 The Space Industry in Russia

With a GDP of $1.3 trillion, the Russian space industry is one of the top 8 in the world and it has great potential to grow even more. Industry leaders are currently developing rockets that will take humans to Mars and they have plans for Venusian exploration too! They are also leading in remote sensing, satellite communications and earth observation. The Russian space industry has much to offer, so read more here!

#What is “space”?#
The word “space” usually refers to outer space: an area of complete darkness that starts from about 80 kilometers above Earth’s surface and goes all the way up into intergalactic space. Outer space is home to many objects like satellites, spacecraft, asteroids and planets. The pieces of Earth that are beyond the atmosphere, like the moon, the Sun and most stars do not count as space because they are located within Earth’s gravitational field.

#The world’s first flight into outer space.#
The first human in space was Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin who flew in a spacecraft named Vostok 1 and made one lap around Earth on April 12, 1961. It took 108 minutes for Vostok 1 to reach space. This flight was a part of the Soviet Union’s Vostok Program which aimed to explore human capabilities in space. It was designed to be a space equivalent of parachute jump test for the air force, but it ended up becoming the world’s first manned space flight.

#The first satellite in space.#
The Sputnik satellite was the first artificial piece of matter to orbit Earth. It was launched by the Soviet Union on 4 October 1957 and it became the first artificial object in space. It was made out of a nickel-iron alloy and weighed 184 kilograms. The satellite orbited Earth for about 83 days, traveling at a speed of about 2,000 kilometers per hour (1,250 miles per hour).

Conclusion
The Russian space industry is one of the most advanced in the world and it is currently developing rockets that will take humans to Mars. Their satellites have helped to map out the Earth’s surface, monitor our oceans and collect data on climate change. They are also leading in remote sensing, satellite communications and earth observation. The Russian space industry has much to offer, so read more here!
