Gamers are a diverse constituency of people with their own answers as to what games they find enjoyable both in and out of the casino. A recent survey on electronic gaming preferences, found that many gamers would rather play roulette than other casino games. It also revealed that the number one preferred roulette game is not European-style, but the American-style version; most likely due to its simplicity.
The survey was conducted by a company called Opinion Matters, asked several questions about gamers and their habits. The survey posed a question as to whether people liked playing traditional table games in a casino setting or if they prefer playing casino games online? Over 80% of those surveyed said they preferred to play online casino games over traditional table games in live casinos.
The next question was asked, "Do you prefer playing traditional table games in a casino setting or do you prefer playing casino games online?" If the preference is for online, when searching for a particular casino game, what does that mean to them?
"Roulette" was the most popular response from those surveyed - but it was different than what most people think. Traditional European roulette is still used in Europe by many casinos. This roulette has six numbers on each wheel and the rules are a little more complex and difficult to learn (if you actually want to bet on a specific number).
American-style roulette is different in that there are only five green and red numbers on each wheel. The house edge is much higher so players who are counting cards will want to steer clear of it.
The other options were "blackjack", "video poker", "slots" and "poker".
Online survey: gamers prefer roulette - Most people associate the rules for roulette with European Roulette since that is the game in most casinos in Europe. However, the only kind of 'roulette' that you will find in a casino is American style, which has single digits on all the wheels and a house edge of about 2% (although this varies from casino to casino).
We actually see a lot of people searching for the American Roulette option on our site during the summer months when there are no casinos in operation and people are traveling. When looking at the results for 'Online Games' on our Google Analytics we can see the increases in traffic during these months and over the years, especially with those searching for roulette.
When asked if they prefer playing traditional table games in a casino setting or if they prefer playing casino games online? When looking at those who took the time to answer, most preferred to play online.
Even though it was an easy question and there were only six choices, there was still so many different answers even after this question was asked.
As mentioned in the intro, there were additional questions and some of them were skewed to be more of a 'push' for certain information. Some examples:
"What is the mean age of gamers?" (was over 25)
"What is the percentage of female gamers?" (was over 30%)
"Which games are most popular amongst gamers?" (Blackjack was #1)
The resulting survey showed that online gaming is preferred by most players, especially by those who have played both online and live casino games. When it comes to what type of game they prefer to play in a live casino setting; over 50% said that roulette was their favorite with slots being second place.
Conclusion: If you are like most people and are looking for good online gaming sites, then this should be the first place you look.
The majority of gamers prefer playing American-style roulette and they enjoy playing in live casinos.

It's a sad day when you can't even play blackjack at a casino anymore. I think online is slowly replacing live action gaming at the tables. Still, there are many people who enjoy the social aspect of playing cards against other players; especially when done as part of a group game or in a one on one setting.
